Imphal, October 31 2023:
The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has urged the state government to look into the distressful condition of the displaced people living in relief camps.
Addressing media persons at its Takhellambam Leikai office, here, on Tuesday, JCILPS convenor Phulindro Konsam said that the committee has been visiting/inspecting condition of the displaced people living in relief camps after their houses were burnt down in the ethnic violence, and also providing relief materials to the inmates.
During the visit, the inmates were seen in need of woollen clothes and shawls for the winter months.
Moreover, students staying in the relief camps are facing financial issues for attending classes.
The inmates also complained of lack of essential commodities, eatables and medicines in the relief camps.
The eatables provided by the state government in relief camps opened in Moirang area were also reported to be unhygienic.
Moreover, even though health camps are being organised, the doctors only give prescriptions and no medicines are provided free of cost to the inmates.
Similar problems are faced by inmates of all relief camps opened in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Kakching areas.
Therefore, the government needs to look into these issues for mitigating hardships faced by the inmates at the earliest.
He also condemned the killing of Moreh SDPO Anand Chingtham by Kuki terrorists in the strongest terms and said that even though the government claims that peace has returned, the attacks by armed Kuki militants on the innocent people continue unabated.
The government should ensure that no such incidents recur, he suggested.
