Bishnupur, October 31 2023:
A Kuki woman who crossed the "buffer zone" into Saiton Heiyaikon in Bishnupur district was rescued by Meira Paibis and handed over to the police today.
The Kuki woman has been identified as Toul-niengsiengching (50) daughter of Shehtinkam alias Donvung from Chura-chandpur's Monglen-phai.
She reportedly crossed two buffer zones early morning at Saiton Nganu-kon, one manned by the CRPF and the other by MAHA Regiment.
When reporters reached the site, they found Toulniengsiengching being guarded by Meira Paibis and police personnel on the roadside at Saiton Heiyai-kon.
SP Bishnupur K Meghachandra rushed to the site to assess and control the situation.
Representatives of the locals and Meira Paibis and police later verified the identity of the women at Phougakchao Ikhai police station.
Following the incident, the locals and Meira Paibis have questioned the security arrangement being put in place by the Central security forces in the border area.
In the name of maintaining the buffer zone, locals of the area are harassed with strict checking and frisking.
Many have been obstructed from tending their fields citing security reasons.
On the other hand, the Kuki woman was allowed to cross not one but two checkposts, they said.
They also appealed to the Kukis to release missing Meiteis if they are in their custody.
