Imphal, August 20 2026: Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam rushed to Delhi this afternoon and joined other BJP MLAs who are already at the National capital yesterday.

BJP MLAs Dr Sapam Ranjan, Kh Raghumani, Kh Ibomcha, Thangjam Arun and Paonam Brojen, and BJP Manipur Pradesh NRC and Census Committee K Saratkumar are at Delhi at present.

JD(U)'s Abdul Nasir and Independent MLA Sapam Nishikant have also reached Delhi.

One of the MLAs said that they have sought an appointment with Union Home Minister Amit Shah tomorrow (Friday) .

The BJP MLAs are at Delhi purportedly to exert pressure upon Central leaders to defer census operations in Manipur until the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is updated.

Govindas Konthoujam who was outside the State for some days reached Imphal from Delhi this morning.

He left for Delhi again in the afternoon.

Speaking to media persons at Imphal Airport, Govindas Konthoujam stated that the State Government will make all efforts to protect Manipur and save her indigenous people.

He said that he and the MLAs who have already reached Delhi will talk with the Central Government leaders as well as BJP Central leaders on the people's collective demand for updating the NRC before starting census operations.

He exuded confidence that the Government of India will do something concrete on the issue.

More MLAs from the ruling BJP including Thokchom Radheshyam and Tongbram Robindro are likely to reach Delhi tomorrow, said well placed sources.
