Imphal, August 19 2026:
After the JFD's 48-hour general strike ended today, it has announced the boycott of all State and Central Government departments, except for Education, Electricity, Health and Water Resources departments.
Announcing the boycott of Government departments, JFD convenor Jeetendra Ningomba also urged the people to approach individual MLAs at their respective residences and ask their stand on the NRC and census issue.
Notably, the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD) has been calling on the Government to update the National Register of Citizens (NRC) before census 2027 .

The organisation and its students' wing had in the last couple of days disrupted many training sessions related to houselisting exercise, a part of the census 2027 exercise.
Briefing media persons today at the WAL Club Wangkhei, Jeetendra Ningomba said the organisation appreciates the public for enforcing the 48-hour general strike it called strictly in the valley and the hills.
The general strike was called as the Government had refused to hear the public demand for NRC exercise before census operations, he said.
Even as certain MLAs are believed to have gone to Delhi to reportedly put pressure on the Centre on the NRC issue, it is not yet clear whom they are meeting in the capital.
This lack of clarity on their part is unfortunate, he said.
While the MLAs' visit to Delhi should have come earlier without the public having to launch agitation, such visits should also be undertaken after a Cabinet decision is taken.
If they had gone to Delhi after taking a Cabinet decision on the issue, their visit would have had more weight, Jeetendra said.
On the other hand, the Chief Minister asking the public and the JFD to take another course of agitation other than general strike is unfortunate, and it is reflective of how lightly he takes the issue and the people, Jeetendra asserted.
The JFD had no other option but to call the general strike when the Government had remained mute and deaf, he added.
Detailing future course of actions, Jeetendra said a decision has been taken to boycott all State and Central departments except for Education, Electricity, Health Department and Water Resources.
Additionally, locals of respective Assembly Constituencies will approach their MLAs at their residence, and demand answers and their stand on the NRC and census issue, Jeetendra said.
People are also encouraged to hold public meetings and also carry out meira rallies at night-time, reiterating demand to update the NRC before census, he added.
Addressing the media, Chandel Naga Peoples Organisation (CNPO) Working Committee convenor T Saka also urged the public in the hills to boycott all Government offices except those exempted in their respective areas.
He further urged the people in the hill districts to approach their respective MLAs and demand to know their stand on the issue.
Saka appealed to people of all communities to sustain the movement until NRC is updated before census.
Representatives of different communities including Meitei, Tangkhul, Meetei Pangal and Kabui etc were also present.
