Imphal, August 19 2026:
The Council of Teachers' Association (COTA) has urged the State Government to relieve all teachers who have been assigned duties as enumerators and supervisors of the census operations of the same duties, pending a conducive atmosphere.
A press release issued by the COTA said that it is deeply aggrieved at the circumstances under which training for census enumeration is being conducted.
Teachers assigned as enumerators and supervisors for the census are facing embarrassment, humiliation and different forms of obstacles while attending training sessions complying with the Government orders, it said.
COTA has also appealed to the State Government and the CSOs concerned demanding updation of the NRC prior to the census enumeration to bring about an amicable solution at the earliest.
"Pending a conducive atmosphere, we appeal to the State Government to relieve the teachers of their assigned duties as enumerators and supervisors", it said.
Meanwhile, the office of the Sub Divisional Officer, Lilong, Thoubal district has cancelled census training programmes of supervisors, enumerators and field trainers.
An order issued by the SDO office today annulled an earlier order issued on August 17 regarding a census
training programme.
