Jiribam, August 19 2026:
The Hmar Inpui Vangai and Hmar Inpui Jiribam Region have denied allegations of illegal drug trafficking and an exchange of fire in the Jakuradawr-Chaudhurikhal (Khawzawl) area, describing reports related to the August 15 incident as false and baseless.
In a joint press communique, the two organisations said certain unknown individuals had allegedly attempted to tarnish the reputation of the region through alleged drug trafficking between Jakuradawr and Chaudhurikhal village on the evening of August 15 .
Following an inquiry by Borobekra Police, a meeting of the heads of civil society organisations from the two regions was convened at Chaudhurikhal village on Sunday to discuss the matter, they said.
The organisations clarified that no individual from their region was involved and condemned any attempt to defame the community.
The two Hmar bodies also rejected reports claiming that an exchange of fire had taken place at the location, terming such reports "completely false and baseless" and appealing to the public not to be misled.
Reaffirming their commitment to peace and tranquillity, the organisations said they would continue to support efforts to restore peace in Jiribam and surrounding areas.
They also assured the authorities of their cooperation in curbing illicit drugs and addressing issues that could trigger conflict or disturbance in the region.
