Senapati, August 19 2026:
The Mao Council has expressed deep concern and strong disappointment over the incident at Namdilong along NH-2 on August 17, in which the convoy of Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho was reportedly attacked with stones and catapults while proceeding towards Imphal.
According to the council, some members of the Poumai Naga Tsinumei Me (PNTM) sustained injuries, while several vehicles were damaged in the stone-pelting and catapult attack.
Describing the incident as deeply regrettable and a matter of serious concern, the Mao Council said such an unfortunate and frenzied situation could have been avoided if volunteer leaders stationed at the location had remained vigilant and responsible and firmly restrained those who acted recklessly and violently.
The council cautioned that incidents of this nature could create division, mistrust and misunderstanding among the people, particularly at a time when unity and mutual understanding are needed most.
Urging people not to allow misinformation, rumours and anger to dictate their actions, the council appealed to everyone to exercise utmost restraint, responsibility and wisdom.
It stressed that all information and allegations should be properly verified before any action is initiated.
The Mao Council also called upon all sections of society to collectively reject violence and irresponsible conduct and work towards strengthening peace, unity, mutual respect and brotherhood.
"Let wisdom prevail over emotion, truth over misinformation and unity over division," the council stated.
