Imphal, August 20 2026:
The Working Committee of the Joint Tribes Council Manipur (JTCM) has announced restrictions on the movement of goods-laden trucks and other vehicles along National Highways passing through Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and Zeme Naga areas, with immediate effect and until further notice.
In a press note, the JTCM said the move is in response to the Government's "complete dis- regard" for peaceful protesters, which resulted in severe injuries to many people during protests at Namdilong, Kangpokpi, on August 20 .
It also cited the abduction, torture and killing of six Naga youths, including two pastors, who were abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13 .
According to the JTCM, the mutilated bodies of the victims were recovered on June 10 following an intensive search.
It further alleged that one victim was found with his hands tied behind his back.
The Committee expressed dissatisfaction with the investigation, claiming that despite the case being handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the perpetrators had not been identified.
The JTCM also alleged that security agencies have adopted a selective approach in maintaining law and order.
It alleged that personnel of the COBRA unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had conducted operations against Naga Village Guard members based on unverified reports.
It also claimed that authorities had failed to prevent attacks on Naga villages by Kuki narco terrorists.
The JTCM appealed to area coordination committees to observe the restriction peacefully and extend solidarity to its decision.
It warned that the committee would intensify its agitation if the Government fails to ensure the safety, security and dignity of the Naga community.
