Imphal, March 18 2024:
President of Lamyanba Irawat Memorial Integrated Trust (LIMIT) and transgender activist Malem Thongam, who will soon complete a month of hunger strike in pursuit of the demand that state and central governments restore peace and harmony in strife-tom Manipur, condemned state government's repeated attempts to suppress his democratic movement.
Lashing out at the state government for dumping protesters in jail and imposing draconian laws to foil and suppress peaceful movement, which he said is not a suicide attempt, but humble plea for restoration peace and normalcy in the state, Malem maintained that similar to the government having the power to end the hunger strike firm resolve could also bring an end to the ethnic strife.
"The hunger strike denying any sort of treatment will continue till completion of one month of the protest on March 22 and prolong the movement if the government does to act positively", he asserted and appealed to the indigenous people to unite and work together to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
