Deliberation on 'Transforming Agriculture into Industry' held

The Institute of Development Studies (IDS), Manipur and the Green Foundation, Imphal jointly organised a day long deliberation on "Transforming Agriculture into Industry" at the Farmer's Convention Hall, Green Foundation, Imphal on Sunday.
According to a release issued by IDS, the programme was attended by Prof N Mohendro Singh, chairman IDS and Khaidem Rajendra Singh, chairman Green Foundation Imphal as presidium members.
Active members of IDS, GF and distinguished farmers also attended the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof N Mohendro Singh said that there is no problem in transforming Agriculture into Industry, however it is vital to first establish a Whole-Sale Market for Agricultural products.
Highlighting that the Go to Village Mission of the Chief Minister largely focuses on increasing Agricultural products in the village, Prof N Mohendro said, "The Government is to look after all sectors relating to the increase of agricultural products right from the beginning.
There is a need to form a Think Tankas we have seen in Assam which can advise the Government to achieve the desired target" .
He continued that in order to convert Agriculture into Industry, it is important to be very careful and particular about the role to be played by Farmers, Industrialists and Businessmen.
"The farmers should not face any difficulty in getting the required materials.
On the other hand, Industrialists should be ready to collect the products for converting into finished products.
Technology, Investment and Market arrangement are highly required", he added.
He also asserted that an honest effort of the Government Departments and sincere attempt of the farmers should go together.
Prof N Mohedro further pointed out the need to enhance the annual budget on agriculture to meet the basic requirement for a healthy and farmer friendly environment.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Himat Singh, CEO, Green Foundation, Imphal.
