Precision agriculture training prog underway at CAU

Imphal, March 18 2024:
College of Agriculture, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Iroisemba, launched a 7-day Customised Skill Development Training Programme on 'Precision Agriculture Technologies' on Monday.
The initiative, sponsored by the National Committee on Precision Agriculture & Horticulture (NCPAH), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, aims to equip farmers with advanced techniques for enhanced productivity.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Dean of College of Agriculture, CAU, professor Indira Sarangthem as the chief guest, professor U Chaoba as the president and professor L Nabachandra and professor N Brajendra from the departments of agronomy and genetics & plant breeding respectively as guests of honour.
Highlighting the essence of the training programme, principal investigator of Precision Farming Development Centre (PFDC) Project, Imphal Centre, professor Ng Piloo shed light on the redent developments in precision agriculture technologies and the project's activities.
Meanwhile, professor Indira stressed the significance of precision agriculture, augmented with digital technologies, in maximising farmers' productivity while minimising inputs as professor Nabachandra emphasised the need to assess the techno-economic feasibility of precision farming in the state's fragmented landholding system.
Addressing the audience, professor Brajendra urged farmers to embrace precision agriculture to mitigate losses and maximise profits while professor U Chaoba underscored the importance of sustainability alongside digital technology adoption.
Altogether 33 farmers and entrepreneurs from various districts are participating in the programme.
