Imphal, April 04 2024:
With a section of Manipuri people now gripped by election fever following months of violence, Nungba AC MLA cum Hill Area Committee Chairman Dinganglung Gangmei alias Dipu Gangmei has called for a dialogue among the warring Meetei and Kuki people to sort out their differences.
He made the appeal during the launch function of a Kabui/Rongmei dedicated TV channel "Chung and Chungs" under ISTV network.
Speaking as the chief guest of the function, the HAC Chairman continued that a collective effort from Meitei and Kuki people is needed to stop the violence and ensure peaceful coexistence.
He added that the crisis in Manipur wasn't triggered by the demand of the Meitei people to enlist them in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list of the Constitution.
Violence won't bring any solution, he said and added that grievances of the two warring communities should be sorted out through dialogue.
He appealed to one and all to have faith in humanity.
The HAC Chairman also said that all the communities residing in Manipur should promote lasting peace and focus on development.
Appealing to the people to extend support to the Centre and Manipur Government in resolving the crisis in Manipur, Dipu Gangmei maintained that peace will remain elusive without the support of the people.
Meanwhile, Dipu Gangmei said that the role of press and media in a democratic Nation is immense.
He appealed to the media professionals to give ethical and constructive opinions to take the State to greater heights.
Saying that the launch of Kabui/Rongmei TV channel under the aegis ISTV will play a pivotal role in promoting the culture and tradition of the ethnic group, Dipu Gangmei continued that he is delighted to see the dedicated TV channel being launched.
ISTV TV president Kabrambam Bijoy Meetei said that Kabui and Meetei people share an inseparable bond.
He also said the launch of the Kabui/Rongmei TV channel will play a key role in building a sense of unity and integrity among the people of Manipur.
Bijoy continued that ISTV will launch an OTT channel very soon.
