Emphasising on the role of the media in a democracy, Hill Areas Committee (HAC) chairman MLA Dinganglung Gangmei called upon media persons to be the voice of the voiceless and provide platform to the vulnerable sections of the society to assert their constitutional rights.
Speaking at the launch function of Chung & Chungs Television, a distribution entity of ISTV, under Chung & Chungs Enterprises, at New Checkon Dimdailong, here, on Thursday, as the chief guest, Dinganglung expressed delight on having a dedicated TV channel for Kabui community, which will broadcast programmes showcasing culture and traditions of the community, among other programmes.
This is a matter of pride for the community as they rise up to take the crucial role of media, he said and urged the media to uphold ethics of journalism and focus on constructive programmes while at the same time acting as a checking mechanism against misuse of power.

There might be various issues and trust deficit, but parties involved need to come to the negotiating table and put their faith on humanity.

Inter-community issues between two, communities are the cause of the crisis and it is not related with ST demand by Meetei community, he maintained.
