Imphal, April 04 2024:
CLP leader Okram Ibobi has slammed the BJP government led by chief minister N Biren for its continuous habit of blaming the previous government for everything, terming it as a desperate and shameful attempt to cover up their failure and mis-governance.
He was speaking at the felicitation function of former candidate of RPI-A, advocate Laitonjam Brojen, who joined the Indian National Congress (INC), at Congress Bhawan, here, on Thursday.
Former deputy chief minister Gaikhangam, MPCC president MLA K Meghachandra, and representatives of different political parties in INDIA bloc attended the felicitation function.
Addressing the gathering, Ibobi said that the Lok Sabha election this time is a golden opportunity for the people of the state to take the lead in bringing a positive change for a new and better Manipur.
This is an opportunity for the people of the state to take a stand against the outlook of BJP government towards the northeast, especially Manipur.
This is the right time to teach them a lesson, and people should not waste the opportunity, he said.
The former chief minister asserted that it has become evident that the BJP government has failed to protect the lives and properties of the people.
Regrettably, the government, in a desperate attempt to hide its failure, keeps blaming the previous government for its own wrongdoings, which is shameful and ridiculous.
In its seven years of rule in the state, the BJP government could not initiate any new significant project let alone completion of projects initiated by the Congress party, Ibobi alleged.
He also called upon the people of the state to show that Manipuris cannot be bought with some mere money and we do not want to depend on others.
He also urged the people to show that the BJP government could no longer hide its incompetency.
INC candidate for Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency, professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam urged the public not to take the election lightly.
The reason behind the June 18 uprising had already fractured the state.
At that time, the state was in knee deep quicksand but today, it has sunken up to the neck.
Despite shouting slogans for unity and integrity, the idea of Manipur has already been fractured as Meeteis can no longer cross Kanglatongbi in the north, Tengnoupal in the southeast and Kangvai in the south.
It is true that sentiment of the people has been hurt but it does not matter if they do not show it by action.
The crisis is not yet over, it simply recedes due to the election.
It cannot be over until the displaced people in the relief camps return to their homes safely, he said, while criticising the government for misleading the people by making false claim of peace and normalcy returning in the state.
The candidate further called upon the people to come together to save the state.
Holding arms and defending against armed attacks is not the only way to show patriotism.
One should understand that it is the incompetency of the government which is forcing the youth to take up arms.
There are high possibility of the government turning against the youth, who took up arms to defend the state when the state government could not do so, he cautioned.
MPCC also launched its Ghar Ghar Guarantee campaign as part of its five guarantees for youth, farmers and women of the country, which is the main agenda in the party's election manifesto.
