Workshop on Thang-Ta concludes

The 5-day workshop on the indigenous performing artform Thang-Ta organised by the Thoibi Thang-Ta & Cultural Association, Moirang concluded today.
The workshop was organised under the financial assistance from Sangeet Natak Akademi, National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama, New Delhi with the primary aim of promoting the unique Thang-Ta artform and to instill the importance of practicing it particularly among the youths of today.
The valedictory function was graced by Thoubal District Thang-Ta Association secretary Sarangthem Tiken; The Thoibi Thang-Ta & Cultural Association Moirang president Konjengbam Bidhu Singh; Moirang Artist Association vice-president Shamurailatpam Inaocha Sharma and Music Director K Ringo as the presidium members.
As a part of the trainees and artistes of the associations demonstrated various tactics and forms of Thang-Ta.
National awardee Guru Konjengbam Tombi was the main instructor of the 5-day workshop attended by 50 students.
Speaking at the occasion, Sarangthem Tiken highlighted that Thang-Ta, the indigenous art form which holds great significance to the history and culture of the State is gaining popularity beyond the State as well.
Elaborating on the multiple benefits of practicing Thang-Ta regularly, he maintained that practicing Thang-Ta not only leads to a healthy lifestyle but also helps in instilling discipline.
In view of its gaining popularity, Tiken said that one can pursue it as a career option and he called for concerted efforts to promote the Thang-Ta art form globally.
