Imphal, April 04 2024:
All Manipur Meitei Pangal Clubs' Organisation (AMMPACO) president Yumkhaibam Rahaman alias Aruba has called upon the people to understand that the upcoming elections is a hopeless and lost cause for the future.
Addressing a press meet held at its Hatta office, Thursday, Aruba said that intense process is on to elect two representatives in the parliament with political parties leaving no stone unturned to promote and glorify their candidates as if Manipur has 50-60 MPs.
With the political parties seemingly unconcerned with Manipur passing through a critical phase since May 3 last year due to outbreak of the ethnic conflict and the people suffering untold miseries, it is questionable how the two MPs would truly help represent the state in the parliament and ensure the entitled benefits of the people.
Moreover, the elections are being planned amid deep suspicion among the people that central and state governments do not consider people of Manipur as bonafide citizens, considering the lackadaisical attitude towards resolving the prevailing issues and overly-enthusiastic nature towards elections, he opined.
Expressing that the people would be more satisfied if the polls were conducted after the issues are solved, he lamented that the government accords seriousness to conduct of election rather than acknowledging suffering of the people and trying to address the same.
Questioning whether one could firmly believe that the candidates would not see to the disintegration of the state after getting elected, Aruba said that all of these are just mere illusions, being woven to take over the seat of the power.
The polls are basically a sign of lost hope for the future, he said.
Aruba then urged the people to celebrate Id-ul-fitr festival in a subtle manner with only the necessary rituals in view of the prevailing conflict in the state.
