Imphal, August 12 2023: As the short statement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Parliament on Manipur crisis has opened a playground for political blame game, BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda, in response to a remark by Opposition stating that the PM did not speak about any solution, said that hidden agendas of Indian National Congress (INC) has burned Manipur.

Addressing a press meet at the party office here on Saturday, Sharda slammed the Congress party for politicising the situation even as the Prime Minister, union home minister and chief minister are taking up initiatives to resolve the crisis and restore peace.

Charging Congress of having several hidden agendas in its 65 years of rule in the country, she said that Congress policies since the time of former PM Jawaharlal Nehru have been playing key roles in making the path for disintegration of Manipur.

The current issues in the state are legacies of the decades of misrule by Congress party and the party should accept its historical faults, she said.

She further said that around 700 people lost their lives, more than 200 injured and 4500 houses were razed to the ground during the Naga-Kuki clash in 1992-93.The clash took place when Narasimha Rao was the Prime Minister, Shankar Rao Chavan, the union home minister and RK Dorendro, the chief minister of Manipur.

Neither the PM nor the union home minister visited the state during that clash, Sharda said.

In the 1993 clash between Meetei and Meitei Pangal, around 100 people lost their lives.

A fact finding team of BJP MPs visited the state and assessed the ground situation after which a report was submitted to the then Narasimha Rao government of INC at the Centre.

The then government gave its reply to the report only in Rajya Sabha without any specific mention of Manipur by both the PM and the HM, the state BJP chief said.

Similarly, around 350 people lost their lives in the Kuki-Paite clash in 1997 98, which went on for over one year but the Congress never took interest in resolving the clash.

The August 27, 1965 march of students in Imphal, which later came to be known as Hunger Marchers' Day, was also a horrific incident in the, history of Manipur in which several lives were lost.

The then Congress government did nothing at that time too, she alleged.

Today, when the violence erupted, the union minister of state for home affairs stayed in the state for nearly a month assessing ground situations and taking initiatives to resolve the crisis.

Union home minister Amit Shah himself stayed for three days.

The Biren government has also been taking up every possible measure and submitting detailed reports to the Centre to find a solution to the crisis.

Despite such efforts, the Congress party is bringing up charges against the BJP government while forgetting their past mistakes, she said, slamming Congress of politicising the issue.

Sharda further defended the MPs from the state and said that they are not remaining silent.

One can easily see their efforts in trying to resolve the crisis if they follow and analyse national politics.

BJP does not want politicising the issue but any attempt to do so will obviously bring out history, which Congress will always find its footprints in all the issues in the state.

The BJP government in the state has been working for a better future so that the future generation could live in a developed and peaceful society.

The government will never let down the people of the state and their faith in the government.

What the state needs right now is not a political blame game but unity and cooperation towards resolving the crisis, she said, while asking the Congress to bring up suggestions to the government instead of indulging in petty politics.

She also said that PM Modi stated in the parliament that India stands with Manipur.

Amit Shah also kept a detailed report on the Manipur crisis.

In order to present a clear picture, the party had to bring up some history.

It was lame for Rahul Gandhi to make remarks like murdering Mother India in Manipur, which is a direct insult to the people of the state, she said.

Regarding the representation against Assam Rifles submitted to the Prime Minister, Sharda said that the MLAs submitted the representation seeking replacement of Assam Rifles only after collecting enough incriminating evidences.

The party stands by its voice against Assam Rifles as they acted against rule, she added.
