Imphal, August 12 2023:
After remaining shut for nearly three months due to the ongoing conflict in the State, Ching Tam High School in Yaingangpokpi, Imphal East district recently reopened with zero percent attendance.
Speaking to the media, Headmaster incharge of the school, Achoibam Jaychandra shared that following Government's order to reopen school, not a single student has turned up for classes in the school so far.
Highlighting that most of the students studying in the school belong to the weaker section of the society, he said, "As majority of the students hail from violence affected villages like Gwaltabi, Thamnapokpi, Sanasabi and Sabungkhok Khunou, they are currently taking shelters at relief camps set up at various places" .
He also mentioned that many guardians and parents have chosen not to send their children to schools for the time being due to the prevailing situation in Manipur.
"As a teacher, it is sad to see the classrooms empty without any student", he added.
Sharing that he even visited the residence of some of the students, Achoibam Jaychandra conveyed his anguish over his helplessness to do not nothing but listen to the families' emotional appeal and heartbreaking experience of the present unrest.
