Jiribam, August 12 2023:
The bandh imposed on NH 37 demanding revocation of transfer order of SP Jiribam M Pradip by Peace Committee, Jiribam, meira paibi groups and CSOs continued on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the public curfew called by LEECHING against SP Jiribam's action during the mass peace rally on August 10 was called off on Saturday.
Speaking to media persons at Irawat Statue in connection with the withdrawal of public curfew, LEECHING president W Dinesh Meetei stated that the public curfew which has been enforced from Saturday in condemnation of the highhandedness of police was called off after a meeting with Jiribam MLA Md Ashab Uddin and police department officials on Saturday considering the prevailing situation in state and problems faced by the public.
Thanking all sections for their support to the agitation, he also appealed all to extend co-operation to the proposed mass peace rally which will be participated by all communities in the district.
On the other hand, LEEECHING Woman Wing vice-chairman Ph Santibala conveyed that efforts were made to have a meeting with SP Jiribam through Jiribam MLA for ending the agitation, after which they were told to meet him at around 9-10 pm on Friday but as all the members could not join the meeting it was agreed upon to have a meeting on Saturday.
But SP Jiribam left the district without saying anything to the MLA and denizens of the district, which is condemnable.
Taking his action as accepting his wrongdoings, a meeting with Jiribam MLA and other police officers of district was held during which was decided to call off the public curfew to restore normalcy in the district, she further mentioned.
