Governor, CM, other greet on Patriots Day

Governor Anusuiya Uikey, Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Health and Family Welfare minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh and Rural Development and PR/MAHUD minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh have extended their warm wishes to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Patriots' Day which is going to be observed on August 13.In her message, Governor Anusuiya Uikey said that Patriots' Day reminds us of our heroic forefathers like Bir Tikendrajit, Thangal General, Chirai Naga, Pukhrambam Kajao, Niranjan Subedar and a host of other martyrs who made supreme and selfless sacrifice for the cause of freedom of their motherland.
They along with many others who were banished for life from Manipur believed in the freedom of their nation and challenged the might of the British Empire in 1891 embracing death and prison rather than live without freedom, she added.
"This historic day also jogs our memory that if we do not live and work together we stand to lose.
Let us while observing the Patriots' Day, pledge to stand and fight as one against all those who challenge the freedom and integrity of the nation, irrespective of caste, creed, religion and other differences, " the Governor said.
Sharing his view on the occasion, Chief Minister N Biren Singh stated that Patriots' Day is observed every year on August 13 in memory of those who laid down their lives, fighting against the mighty British soldiers, in the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891.On this day, Yuvraj Tikendrajit Singh and Thangal General laid down their lives valiantly in defence of their motherland, Biren stated, adding that, the day reminds us of the supreme and selfless sacrifices made by hundreds of soldiers fighting against the British for defending the sovereignty of Manipur.
Pointing out that our forefathers valued freedom and sovereignty of their motherland more than their own lives, Biren expressed his hope that the present generation would reflect on their thoughts and deeds and stand as one, rising above all differences, against forces who wish to disintegrate the state.
"Let us pay our respects to our fore-fathers remembering their highest acts of patriotism.
Let their memory guide us in facing various divisive forces acting from within and outside", the Chief Minister said.
On the other hand, in separate releases, minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh and Yumnam Kemchand Singh appealed to the general public to pay homage to the fore-fathers who fought the British inl891 Anglo-Manipuri war recognising their highest act of patriotism.
