Imphal, August 12 2023:
Wangoi AC MLA Kh Loken has expressed deep dismay over the false media reports that stated that the 40 MLAs, who were in Delhi to put forward the people's demands for restoring peace and normalcy in the state, have been scolded away from the national capital by union home minister Amit Shah.
Speaking to The People's Chronicle via telephone on Saturday, MLA Kh Loken, who was also part of the MLA team to Delhi, took serious note of the reports which went viral on social media.
He said that the 40 ruling MLAs were in Delhi to apprise PM Modi, ahead of the no-confidence motion moved by the opposition, about the ins-and-outs of the violence and suggest the best solution forward, in addition to submitting a memorandum against granting any separate administration to the Kukis.
The MLAs also met some of the central leaders and informed them of the people's wishes and demands over the three-month long violence, prevailing in the state.
However, the false claim that the MLAs had been scolded away from the nation's capital is an attempt to portray the MLAs in bad light.
There is set of protocols for elected leaders to follow, including meeting the central leaders, and vice-versa.
The thinking that an elected representative could be scolded away needs to be rethought.
The 40 MLAs were not in Delhi for personal interests but acting on the wishes and demands of the people.
Some of the MLAs returned via a charter flight after submitting a six-point memorandum to the PM, while other stayed back to finish up some respective works.
No central leader told the MLAs to leave Delhi, he maintained.
