Imphal, August 12 2023:
BJP Manipur Pradesh has blamed the Congress party's hidden agenda for the restive situation besieging Manipur and the misery being suffered by the people.
Speaking to media persons at their Nityaipat Chuthek office today, BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda said that the Congress party has been politicising the Manipur crisis while the Prime Minister, the Union Home Minister, the Chief Minister and his colleagues have been working hard to resolve the crisis.
Manipuri people are now suffering because of the hidden agenda of the Congress party which ruled the country for around 65 years since Independence.
People know that Manipur has been divided since the days of Jawharlal Nehru, she alleged.
She went on to ask why the Congress party ran away like fugitives while discussing the history of Manipur and India.
The Congress party should accept responsibility for all the crises and issues seen today, she said.
While Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on the floor of the Parliament that the people of India stand with the people of Manipur, Union Home Minister Amit Shah gave a detailed account of the Manipur crisis and its genesis.
The history of Manipur was also discussed as certain chapters cannot be overlooked while studying the Manipur crisis, Sharda said.
It was Congress party's hidden agenda which led to the detachment of Kabaw Valley from Manipur.
The crisis besieging Manipur is a fall out of such hidden agenda of the Congress party, she said.
Around 750 people were killed in Manipur during the Naga-Kuki clash in 1992-93.At the time, PV Nasasimha Rao and Shankarrao Chavan were the Prime Minister and Home Minister of India.
Reminding that RK Dorendra was the Chief Minister of Manipur, the BJP State unit president asked whether the then Chief Minister took any step in the interest of the people.
She also asked whether the then Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister visited Manipur.
When a communal riot broke out between Meiteis and Meitei Pangals on May 3, 1993, a fact-finding team comprising seven BJP MPs visited Manipur, went to Wangoi, Lilong and Sora, and submitted a report to the Government of India.
But neither the Prime Minister nor the Union Home Minister gave any statement on the two incidents of communal conflicts, Sharda said.
Again, more than 350 people were killed in the Kuki-Paite clash in 1997-98. Had the Congress leaders given serious thoughts during those times, the present situation of unrest could have been avoided, she said.
At the advice of the Prime Minister, one Union Minister of State for Home stayed in Manipur for almost one month and worked to resolve the Manipur crisis.
Moreover, Union Home Minister Amit Shah too stayed here for three days and made all attempts to end the violence, she said.
Contending that the BJP MPs elected from Manipur did not sit quietly, Sharda claimed that MP RK Ranjan met both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and talked about resolving the crisis.
Assuring that the BJP Government would not do anything which may forsake people's trust, Sharda said that people's support and cooperation would be a big help in resolving the present crisis.
She also appealed to all political parties to put forward pragmatic suggestions to restore peace and normalcy in the State instead of hurling allegations against the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister.
