Imphal, August 12 2023:
Apart from calling upon people not to take part in any event related to India's Independence Day celebration on August 15, the proscribed Alliance for Socialist Unity, Kangleipak (ASUK) imposed total shutdown on the day.
The shutdown to be effective from 6am to 6pm will not cover movement relating to medical, religious ceremonies and emergency services, ASUK said in a statement and appealed to people to support the shutdown.
According to the ASUK statement issued by its publicity committee convener S Mangal, India will be celebrating Independence Day and preparations to celebrate the day in a big way have been made including in Kangleipak (Manipur) by government and its various institutions.
In fact, India's Independence Day celebration has no connection whatsoever with the people of Manipur as Manipur got independence on August 14, 1947, one day ahead of India.
Accordingly, today's generation must raise question as to why August 14 is being celebrated by some individuals in very low key while August 15 is being celebrated in a big way with much fanfare, the ASUK statement said, adding August 15 indeed is mourning day for the people of Manipur.
Giving outfit's view on the present crisis in Manipur briefly, ASUK said the attack carried out by well-armed Kuki-Zo community on innocent and unarmed Meetei people was never expected and it was a very surprising incident.
Equally surprising was the response of the Meetei people who do not even have double barrel gun before the attack.
The incident indeed was heart breaking for ASUK and other organisations of WESEA region launching revolutionary movement for a unified independent nation.
Though war/violence might have been triggered to shatter dreams of revolutionary groups of WESEA region, the ploy of the colonial administration to separate two communities living together with harmony cannot be ruled out.
The attack by well-armed Kuki-Zo community on innocent Meetei people was like 'younger brother' attacking own 'elder brother' at the instigation of outsiders, the ASUK statement said, adding that Meeteis were compelled to defend due to repeated attacks and Kuki-Zo community particularly Kuki-Zo-narco-terrorist had indeed fell into trap of enemy's wicket ploy.
According to the ASUK statement, the Meetei people need to defend the war till the 'younger brother' return to his senses and carry out attack if needed and be prepared for such attacks.
Being human beings, the attackers would surely realize who are instigating the war/violence, ASUK said.
While terming the present 'Khongsai Lan' as third Nupi Lal, ASUK said Meetei women are in the forefront and their active role give confidence among people that there will be no more devastation in Manipur.
