Imphal, October 31 2023: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has once again urged the State Government to provide adequate power to police personnel being posted at Moreh following the killing of a senior police officer Chingtham Anand Kumar by a highly trained sniper at the border town today.

Speaking to the media at UCM office at Lamphelpat today, COCOMI coordinator Jeetendra Ningomba said that the killing of Moreh SDPO Ch Anand on duty by Kuki militants will remain an unforgettable day in the history of Manipur.

COCOMI condemns the killing of the police officer in the strongest terms, he said while extending solidarity to the bereaved family.

Saying that Kuki narco terrorists who want to divide the State based on ethnic lines have been waging war against the Meeteis using different tactics since May 3, Jeetendra maintained that the killing of Ch Anand was also part of the campaign.

The police have been arresting illegal immigrants from Moreh since the past few days and the presence of well armed groups in the area is no secret, Jeetendra continued and asked why no additional power was given to the State forces being deployed at the border town to deal with the issue.

Is it the Centre or the Manipur Government which didn't allow the police to act even in an already tense environment like Moreh where all the residents have been driven out by Kuki militants, the COCOMI leader asked.

Moreh is an inseparable part of Manipur, Jeetendra said and urged the Government to give adequate power to the police at Moreh so that they could perform their power without any limitation.

COCOMI will launch serious agitations if the demand is not entertained, he cautioned.

Meanwhile, Jeetendra asked all not to construe only Meetei as Manipuri to develop a deeper bond among the natives of the State.
