'Manipur Players' Day' Invitational Football Tourney from Feb 18

Imphal, February 14 2022: In connection "Manipur Players' Day" observation, Manipur Students' Federation (MSF) is set to organise an "Invitational Football Championship" from February 18 to 25 .

It may be noted that "Manipur Players' Day" is an annual commemoration programme initiated by late former CM W Nupamacha to celebrate Manipur's historic winning of Raja Bhalendra Singh Trophy for overall team champion on February 25 in 1999 after fetching 49 gold, 24 silver and 39 bronze medals in the 5th National Games hosted in Imphal.

The invitational football tournament is being organised to raise fitness awareness among students and youth who are the future pillars of the society, said MSF in a release.

Teams comprising of leaders and members of student organisations namely AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS will be competing in the football tournament whose league round matches and semi-final matches will be played at Kwakeithel Tiddim Ground and the final will be played at Kumbi Kangjeibung Lampak on February 25, the release said.

An exhibition football match between student leaders and film actors and a tug of war between female film actors and female student leaders will be conducted on the closing day, it said.

Appreciating the All Manipur Football Association for extending technical support in organising the football championship, the student federation also appealed to all to extend all possible support from all sections of the society to make the tournament and observation programme a successful one.
