12 candidates for three seats clear scrutiny

The District Election Office (DEO) for Ukhrul and Kamjong districts on Monday conducted scrutiny of nominations filed by the candidates for three assembly constituencies in the twin districts.
A total of 12 candidates representing different political parties in Ukhrul, Chingai and Phungyar assembly constituencies filed nominations for the second phase of the ensuing Manipur Assembly elections.
AE the candidates successfully cleared the scrutiny without any hindrances.
Three candidates for Ukhrul seat namely, sitting MLA Alfred S Kanngam Arthur (INC), Somatai Shaiza (BJP) and Ramnganing Muivah (NPF) received a copy each of the scrutiny paper from the Returning Officer (RO) for Ukhrul AC Krishna Kumar.
After clearing the process, four candidates for Chingai AC including sitting MLA Khashim Vashum (NPF), Preshow MK Shimray (BJP), Ningam Chamroy (NPP) and Sword Vashum (INC) also received their copy of the scrutiny paper from the RO for Chingai AC Chunglenmang.
ADM Ukhrul Chunglenmang, who is also the RO for Phungyar AC, handed over scrutiny paper to five candidates for Phungyar AC namely, sitting MLA and HAC chairman Leishiyo Keishing (NPF), Hoping-son Awurig Shimray (BJP), Victor Keishing (INC), Wunghaoshang Kasar (JD-U) and Ninghor Jajo (Shiv Sena).
The last date for withdrawal of candidature for the second phase is February 16 and the exact number of candidates will be clear after this, though it is unlikely that any of the candidates will pull out from the contest.
The three assembly constituencies will go to polls on March 5 .
There are 219 polling stations in the two districts.
Out of this, Ukhrul AC has 71 polling stations and Chingai AC has 70 polling stations, while Phungyar has 78 polling stations.
