Imphal, February 14 2022:
L Gouro ran riot to score a hattrick in KIYC's 3-1 win over MCK after AMOFA romped to a 3-0 win over ASSA in the ongoing 63rd Sir Churachand Singh KCSI, CBE Memorial Football Tournament 2021-22 at Artificial Turf, Lamlong Thongkhong.
Having lost 1-2 to CFA in their Group B opener, AMOFA, Moirang took a slender 1-0 lead in the first half before scoring twice in the second half to complete the 3-0 rout of ASSA, Sangaiyumpham.
It was a slow start for both the Moirang team and Sangaiyumpham side and two had almost similar possession and number of scoring chances.
AMOFA however raced ahead in the 41st minute with H Newton finding the breakthrough goal.
The game started to slip from the Sangayumpham team after the break and AMOFA started exploiting their chances by stringing a series of runs.
To their delight, H Johnson was able to slot home the second goal for AMOFA in the 64th minute before H Romen struck two minutes from time to extend the lead to 3-0 .
With little time left in hand, ASSA made all possible effort to grab a consolation goal but AMOFA defence stood firm to deny them with ease.
Eventually AMOFA walked home 3-0 .
Meanwhile in a similar one sided Group C clash, L Gouro scored a hattrick for KIYC, Kshetrigao to hand MCK, Kabowakching second defeat in the tournament.
The result also meant that KIYC are on top of the three-team Group standing on the same 3 points with GSYC, Lonpi who sealed a 1-0 win against MCK in the Group C opening match earlier.
Striker L Gouro was everywhere today as he capitalised all chances to keep the KIYC custodian frustrated.
He opened his account in the 20th minute to hand KIYC a slender 1-0 lead before striking his second 6 minutes later.
MCK which were left in the lurch for the whole of the first half remained struggling after the restart as well and conceded another as L Gouro came deep into their defence line and cracked a powerful shot to complete his hattrick.
Though M Malemnganba pulled back a goal for MCK in the 68th minute, their effort to claw back into the game proved futile as KIYC did well to thwart all incomings that could have been costly to them.
Latter in the day, F4C, Saikul who played out a 1-1 draw with SYMROPIA, Churachandpur in their Group D opener on February 9, were awarded a walkover as their rivals AFC, withdrew after detection of a Covid case among the team official yesterday.
SYMROPIA, Churachandpur will play FC Lamjao in the next Group D league match tomorrow from 10 am.
KYVO, Kwasiphai will take on MA, Kangpokpi from 12.15 pm in a Group E league match before LYCC, Chandel play KRFC, Sagang in another Group E league match from 2.15 pm .
