Imphal, October 13 2022:
After three days of going off press, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union has taken a series of resolutions and all media houses have resumed normal work from today.
The All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU), Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) and Manipur Hills' Journalists' Union (MHJU) had called the cease work strike condemning diktats imposed on the media houses in connection with an impasse concerning media statements issued by All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) .
Journalists from across Manipur had staged a sit-in protest at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai yesterday morning and later held a general body meeting with representatives of civil society organisations at Manipur Press Club at Majorkhul.
The meeting denounced the diktats imposed on the media regarding publication/non-publication of resolutions taken by a general body meeting of the Fact Finding Committee of ex-office bearers of the student body on October 9 .
The meeting attended by several CSOs including women organisations resolved to re-affirm and strengthen its March 5, 2021 resolutions.
The meeting reaffirmed that when there exists an internal conflict within an organisation and causes harm, media houses will not publish stories of any side until the internal conflict/matter is resolved.
It also reiterated that all stakeholders should respect the Code of Conduct (Local Adjustment) worked out by the AMWJU and EGM for smooth functioning of the media and to serve the people better.
Apart from a resolution to resume normal work from October 13, the general body meeting yesterday also took a resolution that media houses will not publish news related to AMSU or statements issued by AMSU until a solution is reached within the organisation and concerned parties.
