Imphal, October 13 2022:
Unhappy with the cabinet decision of re-engaging former chief engineer Laishram Brojendro, who had completed his tenure of engagement, Manipur Tribal Development Corporation (MTDC) employees have declared cease work strike from Friday.
Speaking to media persons at its Lamphel office, here, on Thursday, MTDC Employees' Association publicity secretary Soraisam Jolly informed that they are yet to receive salary for 20 months.
Re-engaging a chief engineer from outside the corporation despite having qualified and senior employees in the corporation is in violation of the: rights of the employees, she condemned.
While denouncing the cabinet decision, she contended that the government seems to be hell-bent on making the corporation defunct, demanded revocation of the cabinet decision and instead appoint present chief engineer (in-charge) Wahengbam Robi as a full fledged chief engineer of the corporation.
While informing that Laishram Brojendra has been restricted from entering the MTDC office, she continued that the employees will launch cease work strike from Friday.
MTDC chief engineer (in-charge) Wahengbam Robi recalled that state, cabinet took a decision on February 18, 2019 for engaging Brojendra for a year as the chief engineer of MTDC after he retired from rural engineering department.
His engagement has been extended every year for three years.
The last extension ended on February 19, this year, he added.
In view of the vacant post, a proposal was submitted to the Chief Minister through additional chief secretary of Tribal Affairs and Hills Department for appointing him as the chief engineer or to extend the engagement of Laishram Brojendro.
Subsequently, he was appointed as chief-engineer (in-charge) of the corporation.
However, it is surprising that the state cabinet has again decided to extend the reengagement of Laishram Brojendro by another year, he added.
