World Heart Dav observed at Senapati District Hospital

District Health Society and District Hospital, Senapati on Thursday observed World Heart Day, 2022 at OPD Block, of the Hospital under the theme "Use Heart for every Heart".
The event was attended by Senapati District Women Association (SDWA) president RN Hannah as chief guest, District Health Society director Dr Pfokreho Pfoze as president and medical superintendent District Hospital Dr M Sokha-a as guest of honour.
Dr Sumpi Percy, DNO, NCD, Senapati, in her welcome address stated that non- communicable diseases like diabetes, heart problem and cancer have become more prevalent in recent times and she stressed the need for self-care to lead a healthy life as Dr Johnny Varay, a physician of District Hospital, Senapati, pointed out that 1.7 crore deaths are caused by heart attack, stroke and other heart related problems every year in the world with an average of 31% deaths out of 100 .
The doctor also highlighted the benefits of enough sleep for the heart and advised patients to abstain from smoking, drinking of alcohol and consumption of pan, gutka, etc.
Dr M Sokha-a explained the functions of heart and suggested adoption of some habits to keep the heart healthy while Dr Pfokreho Pfoze said that in the past people in the age group of 60 years and above were vulnerable to heart disease but today such disease can be detected on adults as young as 18 years and above which is a serious case.
The CMO further said that non-communicable diseases occur in a person from what one eats and drinks and such diseases cannot be cured by medicines easily.
BP stroke, heart failure and kidney failure, etc., are common causes of death due to heart problems and suggested regular medical check-ups.
RN Hannah also spoke on the occasion and urged all to follow doctors' advice and pass on the message to family members, neighbours, relatives and community for a healthy lifestyle.
NCD staff, Senapati per formed a skit on cardiovascular health awareness during the event.
Clinical assessment on measurement of blood sugar, body mass index (BMI), lipid profile, ECG, free consultation, tele-cardio consultation with Sky Hospital, Imphal in association with physicians of the district hospital was also part of the day's programme.
