Imphal East selected for 'Export Hub Scheme': DC Diana

Imphal East DC Khumanthem Diana has informed that the district has been selected as one of the 75 districts to be developed under the Export Hub Scheme of the central government for providing employment opportunities at the grassroots level through export of agricultural produces.
Speaking as the chief guest of a district-level fair on the theme of 'Organic agriculture' organised by Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Imphal East at District Agriculture Office, on Thursday, DC Diana pointed out that as the district depends on rural economy, agriculture, horticulture and allied sectors are quite important.
She then stressed the need for increasing the income of farmers, while highlighting the department's role in this regard.
The DC further emphasised the need for the district's farmers to get acquainted with development in the agricultural sector, adding that farming is a humble profession.
The people survive on the produces produced by the farmers and thus, the focus should be on organic farming.
She also stressed the need for the DAOs to help update farmers with the latest technology and knowledge with regard to agriculture.
Regarding the 'Export Hub Scheme', she said that the scheme will help increase the income of farmers and as such, appealed to all concerned to support the activities taken up by the government for the welfare of farmers and the agriculture sector.
Diana then said that the agricultural fair was organised as part of CM N Biren's Sub Division Development Monitoring Mission (SDDMM), with the aim of making the farmers aware about the various agriculture schemes, services, agri-extension services and concepts and also provide a platform to showcase their products.
She expressed firm belief that the fair will benefit the farmers greatly and also urged the farmers to avail the benefits.
Presided over by Imphal East DAO Laltingmang Doungel, the inaugural function was also attended by SAMETI and RKVY nodal officer Thongam Joyprakash as guest of honour.
During the function, 5 FIGs, namely Model Farmer Club of Phaknung, Apunba Loumi Lup of Yumnam Khunou, Yambem Farmers' Club of Yairipok Yambem, Imphal East Rural Development Farmers Association of Bamonkampu and Thiyam Konjil Farmers' Club were presented with the Best Organised Group Award; and Maibam Ibochou Singh of Naharup the Individual Recognition Award, followed by distribution of soil health Cards to farmers; farm machineries and equipment under SMAM and knapsack sprayers under RKVY.
In all, 16 stalls were opened at the agriculture fair showcasing various products by the farmers of the district.
