Imphal, October 13 2022:
The Coordination Committee (CorCom), a conglomerate of proscribed groups of Manipur (Kanglei pak), has imposed general strike/shutdown on October 15 in protest against India's forcible merger of Manipur (Kangleipak) on this day in 1949.According to a CorCom statement, Manipur (Kangleipak) regained its sovereign status in the midnight of Au gust 14, 1947 after remaining under the rule of British imperialist for 56 years.
However, India swiftly and forcibly annexed Manipur on October 15, 1949 and the day is being observed as National Black Day every year and there is no let up for this year (2022) too, CorCom said, adding that the general strike will be effective from midnight of October 14 to 5pm of October 15.The CorCom statement issued by its publicity committee said that Manipur existed as an independent nation with its own unique identity and self-sustenance capability but had some enemies among its neighbours.
After forcibly occupation of Manipur in 1949, India adopted a series of repressive actions which severely affected every sector including economy and culture & identity of the native people.
Restoration of the ost sovereignty of Manipur Kangleipak) after throwing out colonial administration is the only way to escape from the worsening situation and create a new beginning for better future.
In 73 years of India's occupation, every aspect of survival of Manipur (Kangleipak) as a community has been affected, CorCom said and gave an overview of certain factors which led to the present adverse situation in Manipur (Kangleipak) society.
According to CorCom, India continues to impose a unique economy (colonial economy) in Manipur (Kangleipak) and it is yet to take up steps for self-sustenance economy.
One unique identity of this type of economy is to expand captive market wherein India will collect raw materials from the occupied region and sell their products only.
In order to continue this type of economy, India never allowed establishment of modem industry in occupied region and this compelled Manipur (Kangleipak) to economically depend on India and denied progress of indigenous productive forces.
Under this system of economy, whatever fund India invested in Manipur (Kangleipak) return back to the country and left nothing in Manipur (Kangleipak).
This worsens economy of Manipur (Kangleipak) day by day and the ongoing liberalization policy speeds up this process, CorCom said, adding that India wants Manipur (Kangleipak) to depend on its economy forever and accordingly chalked out strategies.
The CorCom statement further said that India utilises various tactics to torture and suppress people of Manipur (Kangleipak) right from the period of Part-C state till date with the imposition of various draconian legislations including the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).
The present issues confronting the Manipur (Kangleipak) like unemployment, drug menace and corruption are result of these compelling situations brought about by India's suppressive regime.
CorCom then appealed to people to endorse the general strike called as part of National Black Day for the sake of future generation and support the shutdown imposed as part of the general strike on October 15.The shutdown throughout Manipur (Kangleipak), however, will be exempted for medical emergency, fire, media and religious ceremonies.
