Scribes protest threat to press freedom

Imphal, October 13 2022:
Journalists from across the state organised a sit-in protest on Wednesday, which also marked the last day of the three-day cease work strike launched against intervention and threat to press freedom.
The protest held at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai community hall was organised under the joint aegis of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU), Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) and Manipur Hills Journalists' Union (MHJU) .
After the protest, a joint meeting of the three media bodies along with CSO leaders was held at Manipur Press Club.
The meeting re-affirmed the March 5, 2021 resolution to omit any reports related with conflicting parties interfering in press freedom until there is an understanding between them.
It also reiterated the earlier resolution of requesting all stakeholders to honour the Code of Conduct (with local adjustment) adopted by the, media bodies for optimal performance of their duties.
The joint meeting also resolved to refrain from publishing any reports from All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) either coming from them or from a third party until the conflict between two groups of the student body is resolved.
It also resolved to resume normal service of media from October 13 onwards.
