Imphal, October 13 2022:
Chief Engineer (CE) in-charge of Manipur Tribal Development Corporation (MTDC) Ltd has condemned the Government for allegedly trying to extend the service period of a former CE for the 4th time.
At his office at Lamphelpat today evening, MTDC Ltd CE in-charge, Wahengbam Robby alleged that following a Cabinet decision today to appoint a Chief Engineer cum Technical Consultant of the MTDC, the Government might be trying to appoint former Chief Engineer L Brojendra to the post.
W Robby told media persons that he has been CE in-charge since June 24 last after his predecessor Chief Engineer L Brojendra retired.
L Brojendra had retired as Additional Chief Engineer of Rural Engineering Department in February, 2019.After his retirement, he was engaged as Chief Engineer of Manipur Tribal Development Corporation (MTDC) on contract basis for one year.
"Subsequently, with the approval of the Cabinet and concurrence of the Finance Department L Brojendra's service period was extended for a third time till February this year," said Robby.
The Tribal Affairs and Hills Director through Additional Chief Secretary had then proposed the Government to either extend the service period of L Brojendra for the 4th time or appoint him (W Robby), senior most officer in the MTDC as CE or CE in-charge.
Following this Govt had then sidelined L Brojendra and appointed him as the CE in-charge, said W Robby.
"However, the State Cabinet today has taken a decision to appoint a Chief Engineer cum Technical Consultant of the MTDC.
We can't interfere in the appointment of the MTDC CE cum Technical Consultant, but it will be a disappointment if L Brojendra, who was disapproved by the Government earlier, is appointed to the post again.
"If he is appointed again this will be the fourth time his service has been extended.
Above this, appointing an outsider as CE and Technical Consultant of MTDC will make the corporation bear additional financial burden," Robby said, expressing his desire for the Cabinet to reconsider its decision again.
Meanwhile, MTDC Employees Association, publicity secretary Soraisam Jolly cautioned that the association would launch stringent agitation if the State Cabinet doesn't repeal the decision.
