Imphal, October 13 2022:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president MLA K Meghachandra said that more scams in PMGSY projects are cropping up under the BJP government.
Addressing a press conference at Congress Bha-wan here on October 10, Meghachandra said that after the earlier disclosure of Rs 300 crore PMGSY scam, more such scams are coming up.
RD&PR minister Y Khemchand himself had come across one such scam in Noney district few days back where the contractor had withdrawn nearly Rs 7 crore without executing the work.
The minister himself stated that the case will be handed over to ED for investigation, he noted and demanded the minister to keep his word.
In another such scam, around two-third of a Rs 39.72 crore PMGSY project (first phase) in Chandel district had been withdrawn without proper work execution in the name of a contractor called SN Panmei.
Another PMGSY project was sanctioned for the same road in the second phase at a cost of Rs 50.68 crore and nearly half of the fund had been withdrawn without proper work execution.
Congress party has documents related with fund misappropriation of around Rs 1700 crore for PMGSY roads in Chandel, Churachandpur, Ukhrul and Tamenglong districts.
As for the Reng-pang-Mongjarong Khullen project, the fund was withdrawn in two instalments in 2017-18 and 2018019 respectively.
It is rather surprising for the government to get the information after many years in power and yet the minister is giving a 15-day time to the contractor, which raises suspicion of possible compromise under the table, he said while demanding immediate action and handing over the case to ED.
