Camp sitting cum Human Rights awareness programme conducted

Manipur human Rights Commission organised apress meet today at Lamphelpat Court Complex in cnnection with the 3-day Camp Sitting cum Human Rights Awareness Pro-gramme" held in Ukhrul from July 18-20 .
Khaidem Mani, chairper-on, MHRC and other law officers of the Commission were also present at the press meet.
W Basantakumar, Law officer, informed mediapersons that the press conference was organized to give an account of the human rights issues faced by the NGOs and CSOs of Ukhrul as revealed during the 3-day programme.
He added that in connec-tion with the programme, HRC in association with ukhrul District Police had been consistently conducting awareness programs since January 2021 under the theme "Campaigns need Police reform to ensure human rights" .
Addressing the gathering, Khaidem Mani shared that several NGOs had made the appeal for the repeal of AFSPA from the whole State.
Further, he stated that according to them, Assam Rifles were allegedly stationed in seven villages of Ukhrul which had created a lot of inconveniences for the women and children of the villages in question.
On an inspection trip to the District Hospital and Government schools of the district, they were informed about the inadequate number of doctors, absence of public ambulance facility, lack of teachers and poor state of school infrastructure and so on.
The Chairman added that they had also been informed of doctors and teachers who refused to join service and opined that the reason for this could be lack of fooding and lodging facilities.
In this regard, he urged the relevant department to take legal action against those individuals who refused to join despite being provided with proper amenities.
