Arms seized

Senapati, July 21 2022:
Many arms and ammunition including one AK-56 rifle, two 7.65 pistols, one AK-56 magazines, two pistol magazines, thirteen 7.62 mm rods and fifteen 7.65 mm rods were seized by the Maram Battalion of Assam Rifles yesterday.
Acting on specific information regarding a possible weapons deal on Senapati-Ngatan-Khamsom Road, Senapati district, a speoial operation was launched by the Maram Battalion at multiple stops covering the suspected route and tracks leading to Senapati town.
At around 4.55 pm, a motorcycle was stopped for verification at Sorbung junction along Senapati-Khamson road.
As the AR troops were searching the motorcycle, a car was noticed approaching the check point.
However, the car stopped at a distance of around 400-500 meters short of the checkpoint.
On noticing the suspicious activity of the car, the troops rushed towards the suspicious car.
On seeing the troops the car tried to flee but fell into a drain and got stuck.
One individual was seen rushing out of the car and fleeing the scene taking advantage of the thick adjoining forest.
The car was searched thoroughly and a huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered beneath the rear seat.
The items recovered from the car included one AK-56 rifle, two 7.65 pistols, one AK-56 magazine, two pistol magazines, thirteen 7.62mm rods and fifteen 7.65mm rods.
Later, the recovered items were handed over to Senapati police station along with the car.
