State holiday on Jadonang's death, anniversary on Aug 29 urged

At least four organisations have urged the State Government to declare August 29 as a State holiday to commemorate the death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang.
Chairman of Hill Areas Committee, Dipu Gangmei has also backed the demand.
The organisations which have put forth the demand are Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland), Kabui Union Manipur, Kabui Mothers' Association Manipur and All Zeliangrong Art and Culture Organization.
Addressing a press briefing a.t Kakhulong today, Kabui Mothers' Association (KMA) general secretary Ranjita Golmei asked the State Government to declare the State holiday on or before August 15 in the interest of the Zeliangrong people.
Saying that they have been urging the successive Governments to declare August 29 as a State holiday but to no avail, Ranjita urged the incumbent Government led by Chief Minister N Biren to declare the holiday without fail.
Members of other organisations also expressed their disappointment with the successive State Government for not declaring the holiday despite demanding the same for over 20 years.
Chairman of Hill Areas Committee cum Nungba AC MLA Dipu Gangmei also attended the press briefing.
The MLA said that the demand put forth by the four organisations is reasonable and extended his support to the cause.
He appealed to the Chief Minister to declare August 29 as a State holiday in the interest of the Zeliangrong people.
