Imphal, July 21 2022:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Thursday organised a protest against frequent summoning of AICC president Sonia Gandhi and former president Rahul Gandhi by Enforcement Directorate (ED) in relation with National Herald newspaper case.
Congress workers also had a tussle with police as they tried to storm the Raj Bhavan to register their protest.
Congress MLAs, ex-MLAs
and workers led by MPCC president K Meghachandra organised the protest in front of Congress Bhawan and shouted slogans against ED and BJP while terming the frequent summoning of AICC president
Sonia Gandhi and former president Rahul Gandhi by Enforcement Directorate (ED) as a political vendetta.
From there, the Congress workers marched towards Raj Bhavan but police stopped them in front of Kangla western gate, thus, resulting in a tussle between the protesting Congress workers and the police.
After a brief confrontation, the protestors returned to Congress Bhawan and continued their protest there.
Interacting with the media, MLA Meghachandra said that INC providing loan to National Herald run under Associated Journal Limited is not a case of money laundering.
National Herald is a media firm, which played major role in the freedom struggle of India and as such Congress party has close ties with the media firm.
As the media firm, which contributed in the freedom struggle, was suffering from a major financial crisis, INC provided Rs 90 crore as loan and the same amount was used in repaying debts related with electric bill, building rent and others.
Congress party strongly condemns the act of depicting the assistance as a case of money laundering, Meghachandra said.
On the other hand, BJP is using ED as a tool to harass Congress party and discredit its leaders.
It is a classic case of political vendetta against Congress by BJP, he added.
