Drugs, smuggled timber wood seized; 12 held

A team of Thoubal district police commandos led by additional SP (Ops) O Wangkhomba and assisted by OC inspector N Sadananda Singh reportedly arrested one Md Nasiruddin (39) s/o (L) Md Islauddin of
Lilong Atoukhong along with 36,500 tablets suspected to be contraband WY drug from his hut located at Lilong Ubakthong Makha on Wednesday at 8.55 pm.
The arrested person along with the seized items has been handed over to Lilong PS and a case has been registered for further necessary action, said a police release, adding that the raid was conducted based on reliable input from 16 Assam Rifles.
Meanwhile, Modi Battalion of IGAR (S) foiled smuggling of heroin and Khangra wood in Chandel district and areca nuts in Kakching district on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.
According to PRO IGAR (S), troops of Assam Rifles launched a search operation in Old Songyang area in Chandel district during which two cartons concealed under the foliage were recovered.
On checking, the cartons were found containing 188 soap cases of heroin weighing approximately 1.88 kg worth Rs 7.52 crore.
The recovered items have been handed over to the Narcotics Control Board, Imphal on Thursday.
In another intelligence based operation launched by Assam Rifles in Chandel district, the troops seized Khangra wood worth Rs 8 lakh which were being ferried in three buses.
The seized timbers along with the buses and nine traffickers have been handed over to the range officer Forest department, Chandel district.
In another operation, Assam Rifles troops intercepted a TATA DI vehicle at a Mobile Vehicle Check Post along Pallel-Imphal axis on
Wednesday and another TATA DI vehicle on Thursday which resulted in recovery of 137 bags of areca nuts along with several other contraband items.
The amount of the seized goods is assessed to be worth Rs 75.23 lakh, said the PRO, adding that the seized goods along with a vehicle and two traffickers have been handed over to Customs Preventive Force, Kakching district.
A team of Imphal East district police commandos arrested a drug dealer and recovered heroin from him at New Checkon crossing around 3.50 pm on Thursday.
The arrested drug dealer has been identified as Md Rahat Ali (25), son of Md Rasid Ali of
Phabakchao Awang but presently residing at Hatta Golapati.
According to police, the team conducted frisking and checking at New Checkon crossing and seized 52 plastic vials containing heroin from Rahat Ali.
Upon questioning, Ali revealed that he has been smuggling/dealing in illegal drugs for the last 2/3 years.
He usually bought the drugs from one Md Muffijuddin of Phabakchao Heibong Yangbi, Imphal West and sold them to drug abusers of Hatta Golapati, Rahat confided.
The arrested person along with the seized items has been handed over to Porompat Police Station for necessary action, it added.
