Imphal, July 21 2022:
JNIMS Mamang Awang Leikai Plot Owners' Development Association has charged Kongpal Porompat Keithel Development Committee of converting public lane of Porompat Kongkham Leikai (lane no.4, 5 and 6) into private land, selling them and counterfeiting revenue map by erasing the public lane.
Opposing the act of the committee, the association members organised a sit-in protest at Keithel Macha near JNIMS on Thursday demanding intervention from the government in this regard.
Interacting with the media at the protest venue, Association secretary N Shamu informed that as the said lanes had been
in existence since 1983, it approached Zila Parishad member for constructing a women's market shed at Kongkham Leikai lane no 5 in place of the existing old sheds while keeping a U-turn lane.
However, the Keithel Committee raised objection to the proposal and has been trying to sell off the existing Keithel plots, he said and urged the authority concerned to look into the matter.
He further informed that the association will take up measures to restore the public lanes and a public meeting held on Thursday agreed to outcast any individual, who raises objection to the restoration work.
