DC warns against dumping carcass in water bodies

Imphal, July 21 2022:
Kakching district deputy commissioner Somorjit Salam has cautioned all concerned that dumping of carcass or any part of perished animal, which at the time of its death was known to be infected, in water bodies will be dealt with suitably and punished as per the law.
In a notification, the DC informed that amid enforcement of containment measures subsequent to reports of African Swine Fever (ASF) cases in the district under the "Prevention & Control of infection and Contagious Diseases in Animal Act, 2009", carcass of a dead pig was found thrown in the Kakching-Sekmai river near Kha
Manipur College on Thursday.
While informing that such an act, which is likely to lead to health hazards, is a criminal offence under the Act, the DC reiterated that whoever places or causes or permits to be placed in any rivers, lakes, canals or any other water body, shall be guilty of an offence and, on conviction, punished with imprisonment or fine.
