Govt plans to procure surplus paddy: Biswajit

Agriculture minister Th Biswajit has said that the state government has plan to purchase surplus paddy production of farmers so that their problem in selling the same could be solved.
He also stated the government is planning to help farmers in taking up double cropping of paddy crop.
Minister Th Biswajit stated this during the opening session of a Village Poverty Reduction Plan (VPRP) achievement fair (Mela) jointly organised by Khongman Gram Panchayat, Khongman Mangjil Village Level Federation, Khongman Apunba Village Level Federation and Ima Panthoibi Village Level Federation at Khongman Zone-II community hall on Thursday.
As chief guest of the event, Th Biswajit said that the present government has plan to take up welfare activities for farmers including procuring of their surplus paddy and
taking up double cropping of paddy in a year.
Regarding rumour being spread in Thongju AC that he could not provide urea to farmers despite holding the portfolio of agriculture, Th Biswajit said that he had distributed 6,000 bags of urea to farmers of the constituency for this year though only 3,500 bags used to be allocated annually while he was the MLA.
He then appealed to farmers who are reluctant to procure urea from him to approach the district agriculture officer and the officer will provide the same without any delay.
He also said that government is providing urea to farmers as per their needs
and preparation for providing urea through distributors within the next few days has been made.
Agriculture department would even provide urea to farmers at their doorsteps if the department is contacted through the toll-free number, Th Biswajit said and strongly called for ending politicisation on urea.
Regarding the fair, minister Th Biswajit said that the activities of SelfHelp Groups are being made public through the fair and appealed to elected local leaders to hold discussion so as to identify those who are yet to avail government welfare schemes at GP level.

which is being promoted by Manipur State Rural Livelihood Mission was also attended by Khongman GP pradhan Moirangthem Nungshirei, Kshetrigao BDO Subinson Sapam, ME & MIS state mission manager Gurumayum Kavita, SISD state mission manager Loitongbam Binota and Livelihood district coordinator Nongmaithem Prabin.
