Imphal, July 21 2022:
Lilhakhong Development Committee (LDC) has strongly decried the insensible act of cutting down trees and vandalising of locks carried out by unknown miscreants at Lilhakhong this morning.
Speaking to media persons today at Lilhakhong, Laishram Bhumeshwor, secretary LDC, shared that tree saplings had been planted on either side of the road in Lilhakhong by the Committee under the supervision of MLA Karam Shyam in 2019 with the objective of conserving the environment.
With the goal of turning the area into an eco-park, LDC carried out extensive cleaning and planting of tree saplings and enclosed the area with metal fencing while also installing two iron gates with locks.
Unfortunately, unknown miscreants cut down four Bokul trees in the area and vandalised the locks installed on the two gates this morning.
Laishram Bhumeshwor condemned the incident terming it a crude and an uncultured act.
He added that all efforts put in taking care of the trees had been undone by a single careless act and cautioned that the Committee will not take this incident lightly.
