Body of second drowned victim found in Nagaland

The body of the second victim who got drowned along with another woman while trying to cross a stream at Poi village in Manipur's Ukhrul district was found on the river bank of a village in Nagaland on Thursday.
The recovery came around 10 days after the tragic incident that occurred on October 24 last.
According to a police source, a reliable source confirmed recovery of the missing woman of Poi village whose body was found on the river bank of Akhegwo village in neighbouring Nagaland along Tezii River about 65 km east of Jessami block in Manipur's Ukhrul district.
The chairman of Akhegwo village communicated and confirmed the report and the same was informed to Poi village, the police source said, adding that necessary arrangements to bring home the mortal remains will begin tomorrow due to late receipt of the report.
For over a week, the body of the missing woman RK Ram-reila (35), wife of RK Mathotmi had remained untraceable after she drowned along with the other woman RS Ngamreila (30) wife of RS Varechung.
Ngamreila's body was recovered from the river bank of Chalou River at New Tusom village on October 28 last.
The two women were swept away by the strong water current while crossing a stream on the evening of October 24 .
The stream Tholiru, a tributary of Ghallou River, had swollen as a result of heavy rains due to cyclone Sitrang.
They had gone to the field to harvest paddy crop and were on their way home when the tragic incident occurred.
Both victims were residents of Poi village under Chingai subdivision of Ukhrul district.
Meanwhile, Poi Disaster Management Team, which was constituted to secure humanitarian aid for the two victims' families, handed over monetary assistance of Rs 51,000 each to the victims' families on Thursday.
With this, the team has extended a total of Rs 1,01,000 each to the victims' families, it said.
The team further assured the bereaved families of continued support in the coming days.
At the same time, the team conveyed gratitude to the public, neighbouring villages and all the sympathisers for their generous donation towards the relief assistance, and also acknowledged the relentless services rendered by NDRF, SDRF and neighbouring villages.
