Body to study Loktak boundary set up

Imphal, November 03 2022:
Following a Cabinet decision adopted on October 13 this year, an empowered committee has been constituted to determine the actual boundary of Loktak Lake consisting of an area of 236.21 sq Km for the purpose of taking up an ADB project and eviction of unauthorised occupants such as human settlement, unauthorised fish farms and illegal encroachers inside the protected buffer zones.
Environment and Climate Change Deputy Secretary A Heera Singh issued an order to this effect on October 31 .
The empowered committee is headed by PHED Minister as chairperson and its members include Fishery Minister, Water Resource Minister, LDA Chairman and the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests.
The exercise of determining the boundary is to be extended so as to cover the total catchment area of the Loktak Lake, Phumlen Pat and other connected water bodies and major rivers draining into the Loktak Lake.
According to the order, the committee should submit an action taken report to the Chief Minister every three months.
