DFO warns poppy cultivators

The Divisional Forest Officer, Kangpokpi has warned of taking up stern action against those indulging in poppy cultivation in the reserved forest area as forest department and district police destroyed around 7-10 acres of illegal poppy cultivation at Kanglatongbi-Kangpokpi Reserved Forest (KKRF) in Thursday.
According to the Range Forest Officer (headquarters), Kangpokpi Forest Division Neitinkim, a combined team of Kangpokpi forest division and district police led by Range Forest Officer, Motbung Range, in continuation of the government's 'War on Drug' campaign trekked Kanglatongbi-Kangpokpi Reserved Forest hill ranges on Thursday to check for any encroachment and illegal poppy cultivation.
The team came across a huge area with illegal poppy cultivation measuring about 7-10 acres and promptly destroyed the same, she said, adding that the Range Forest Officer concerned has already begun the process for lodging an FIR.
Divisional Forest Officer, Kangpokpi N Ganesh also warned that stern action will be taken up against those indulging in poppy cultivation in Reserved Forest area He also stated that an investigation will be initiated by the DFO in coordination with police and NAB to book culprits under both Indian Forest Act 1927 and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 .
The DFO then appealed to public to refrain from trespassing and committing any offense inside the Reserved Forest and come forward to help in identifying those responsible for such heinous activities.
