Imphal, November 03 2022:
The Education (Schools) Department has issued clarification on issues related to agitations launched by students against transfer of teachers.
In a statement, Education (S) joint director Hmangte Lerte Kom observed that the reported agitation in some schools suggests that there is apprehension amongst the students of some government schools about the impact on their studies due to transfer of some teachers from their schools in the middle of the academic session.
While clarifying that the apprehension is misconceived as the government is not taking up mass scale rationalization exercise at the moment, the joint secretary maintained that transfer of some teachers had to be carried out after calculating the number of classes/period each teacher is taking per day/week.
Hmangte explained that teachers who are being transferred out are only from those schools where there is excess based on either sanctioned strength or number of classes or both.
There is a need to transfer/post/utilise some lecturers to meet the requirement of the schools where there is acute shortage of teachers especially newly upgraded higher secondary schools, the joint secretary informed, adding that it is possible that the young minds are being instigated by vest ed interest like those teachers who are transferred out or those teachers whose number of class/periods increase to 3-4 instead of 1-2 classes in a day.
Hmangte also assured that the government is taking all care to ensure that the academic activities of the schools are not adversely affected by such transfer and posting of the teachers.
