ICAR exhibits new rice varieties on Farmers' Field Day

A Farmers' Field Day with the theme of "Field Day on Rice" was organised today at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat.
The programme was conducted to showcase and demonstrate the stand crops of new rice varieties/pre-released lines including three newly released varieties viz.
RC-Maniphou 14, 15 and 16 released by the ICAR Manipur Centre, said a statement by the Centre.
Dr Anupam Mishra, Vice-Chancellor, Central Agricultural University, Imphal; Dr Arnab Sen, Principal Scientist, ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Umiam and Dr V.K.Mishra, Director of ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya graced the event as the presidium members.
The Joint Director of ICAR Manipur Centre, Dr I Meghachandra Singh highlighted the research and development of different varieties of the centre.
The newly released rice varieties of medium duration viz., RC-Maniphou 14 (potential yield of 7.8t/ha); RC-Maniphou 15 (potential yield up to 7.8t/ha) and RC-Maniphou 16 (potential yield of 7.3t/ha) suitable for the State were showcased in the presence of farmers.
The Manipur Centre has also released many varieties of different important crops including Perilla (RC-Manithoiding 1 & RC-Manithoiding 2); Maize (RC Manichuzak 1 & RC Manichuzak 2) during 2022 and five varieties of tomato viz.
Manikhamnu, Manithoibi, Manileima, RC-Khamenachinba-1 and RC-Khamenachinba-2 in the past decade.
Recently, a newly developed variety of brinjal, RC Manikhamen-1 was also released during 2021.The Centre is developing semi-dwarf high yielding black rice varieties and are under multilocation trials across the State.
The varieties yield doubled as compared to traditional black varieties.
In connection with the programme, a tree plantation drive was also conducted at the campus.
The field day was followed by critical inputs distribution like seeds of rape-seed mustard, pea, rajma, grafts of cashewnut, nano urea and bee boxes to the farmers under the different programmes with the objective for the socio-economic upliftment, sustainable income generation, livelihood security.
A Farmers-Scientists Interaction Meet was also organized as part of the field day and the importance of field day was highlighted by the Joint Director.
