Kakching, July 06 2022:
Joint Non-Governmental Voluntary Organisation (JNGVO), Kakching has warned authorities concerned that it would shut down Kakching District Agriculture Office from July 9, if the said office does not operate and distribute fertilizers to the district's farmer within July 8.In a release, JNGVO president Kshetrimayum Biren informed that the farmers of the district have begun sowing paddy seeds since June and are likely to conclude the process by July 15.In the meantime it is very much necessary to apply fertilizers in the paddy fields or the paddy will become infirm and turn reddish in colour.
Pointing out difficulties faced by the farmers, he informed that they have to travel to Thoubal District Agriculture Office just to get a bag or two of urea, spending their precious time and hard earned money while there is no guarantee that they will get the fertilizer.
On the other hand, the farmers are facing problems in selling their produce as there are no buyers, the president continued.
Further stating that construction of Kakching District Agriculture Office had already been completed, he contended that due to absence of staffers, the office has never been opened till date.
Moreover, the farmers had urged officials concerned to distribute urea several times but there is no assurance of getting the same anytime soon, he opined.
While demanding the government to make arrangement for distribution of fertilizer at the earliest, the president cautioned that either the authorities start operating the district agriculture office and its warehouse or face shutdown of the office.
